DIY Network’s Kitchen Crashers took on the Bucktown Fire house kitchen for their holiday episode. Johnson Architecture rehabilitated their Kitchen installing new cabinetry and appliances.
Redesigning the kitchen and dining area allowed Johnson Architecture to include this communal dining table built by the firefighters themselves.
Previously the firefighters used the old prep surface as their dining table. We added more counter space by designing two large islands with one on casters for flexibility.
The three shifts of firefighters each had their own pantry and refrigerator which were scattered throughout the space. In designing the new space we banked the refrigerators with the pantry cabinets and located them closer to the kitchen area creating a more harmonious space for them to cook in.

Finishing touches include, the dedication wall to fallen firefighters, and information wall with flatscreen TV’s.
