Frequently Asked Questions
All of the answers below will vary according to each project size and scope.

Question:
I've never hired an architect before. What's the process and how do I get started?
Answer:
Give us a call as soon as possible. We can discuss your project ideas and answer many questions over the phone. We cannot, however, give you costs over the phone because we need to see the size and scope of the project before that can be determined. Once we've discussed your project ideas we set up an appointment at your home (or project site) so we can prepare a proposal that outlines scope of services and fees.

Question:

How much are the architects fees?
Answer:
Fees vary per project size, scope and services as mentioned.
To give you a ballpark number, here is a list of minimum fees:
consulting: $175/hour
interior renovation-small: from $2,500
interior renovation-large: from $7,500
one story addition: from $6,000
two story addition: from $8,000
renovation + addition: from $14,000
new single family: from $22,000
Remember each project is different, so we will create a service and fee agreement that is designed to meet your specific needs.

Question:

How can I keep architects fees to a minimum?
Answer:
If you are planning a large project, you are hiring an architect for their expertise in the building structure and coordination of mechanical, plumbing and electrical work. The interior design portion would be a good place to reduce fees. If you've watched a lot of HGTV, then you have a good idea on finish and fixture selection. But keep in mind, you still need to keep your architect involved on the coordination of these items, especially during the construction phase.

Question:

How long does the process take?
Answer:
The architectural process is broken up into phases.
The timeframe below is based on a one-story room additon:
1. Design Phase: 3-5 weeks
2. Bidding Phase: 3-4 weeks
3. Permit Phase: 4-8 weeks (not including zoning adjustments)
4. Construction Phase: 3-4 months
Again I can't stress enough that each project is different.
If you are planning a full renovation or new construction of a single family home, the timeframe will be much longer. We want to take as much time as necessary to work together and create a space that is specific to your lifestyle.
